LINOLEUM PRINT QUILT:
Academic Project, Williams College
Spring 2018
During my junior year of college, I took a class on Art and Sustainability. A large portion of the class was spent reflecting on consumption and how we can change our own consumption. We thought critically about how art materials and the production of art can often be at odds with sustainability goals. Throughout the class we worked to integrate sustainability into our art through projects like embroidering and repairing our own clothes. In this project, I used leftover fabric scraps from the art department to develop a quilt of hand carved linoleum prints. I made a total of 16 Reduction prints each varying in color in some way. Using blue, pink, purple, and gray on different arts of stage of each print. I hand stitched each of these together to make a quilt.
